Need to Know

VISITORS - Weekdays, parking permits are needed. Cost = $5 at parking, or may be obtained from the department being visited. Permits must be dated and displayed in the vehicle where they can be seen by ticket writers.

Fridays after 5pm, all day Saturdays & Sundays – no permits needed in Faculty/Staff lots.

Parking Permit Information

Mondays at 8am through Fridays at 5pm year-round, a valid parking permit must be obtained unless otherwise noted above. The permit is either a rear view mirror hang tag or a dashboard permit emailed by the Events Office.  Permits must be Dated or they are not valid.

Weekends, from 5pm Friday through Sunday night, no permits are required in Faculty/Staff Lots.

Individuals may purchase parking permits for $5 per day (tax incl., cash/check) at the Parking Department (4th and Pearl Streets) in advance or the day of your visit. Have your vehicle's license plate number ready, along with identification. After hours, permits may be obtained from the Police Dispatcher (exact change or check only). Park on 4th Street next to the Police building while obtaining a permit, then move to the appropriate parking lot. Once received, the Rutgers parking permit must be displayed and clearly visible in the vehicle for parking enforcement officers to see.

Visitors to Residence Halls: The Resident you are visiting should arrange for your parking. Cost = $5, valid until 10am the next day. Identify the person you are visiting and their dormitory & room number.

Departments may obtain groups of hangtags for their visitors; contact the Parking Office at (856) 225-6137. To pay for a permit for Volunteers, Visiting professors, consultants and others not on Rutgers payroll, complete this Non-Affiliate Permit Application and create an IPO for the cost (no tax).

Auditing a Class: Senior citizens auditing classes may purchase a permit for $5 that gives full semester access to City Lot 15 & City Lot 21. Permission must be obtained from the professor on this form, which should be brought to the Parking Office when purchasing a permit.

Faculty/Staff from Other Rutgers Campuses: Burgundy and burgundy/white striped Rutgers permits are honored in all Camden Campus Faculty/Staff lots, but not in "Reserved" spaces until after 5pm. Employees from campuses that do not require permits may buy One Day Visitor permits for $5 at Parking or Police Dispatch.

Students from Other Rutgers Campuses:  permits are honored in lots City Lot 15 & City Lot 21

Permits Not Honored on the Camden Campus: Orange Newark hangtags and temporary (daily) permits from any other campus.

Rules & Regulations

Parking lots are patrolled regularly and have signs indicating what type of lot it is and what type of permit is allowed.

If you receive a parking ticket, you have the right to appeal your fine online on the Tickets page of this website. A paper form may also be obtained at the parking department in the lobby of the Rutgers Police Department. Appeals are not addressed at the time they are completed and are independently judged only on whether or not the offense committed agrees with the fine assigned. Circumstances are not taken into consideration.

Vehicles may be subject to towing or booting at the owner’s expense for any violation of parking/registration rules or accumulation of answered citations. All booting, towing and storage fees are the responsibility of the driver and/or owner. Contact University Police at (856) 225-6009 for location of vehicle.
